Privacy Policy
Useful information without hidden surveillance.
Effective July 30, 2026. This policy explains what Main Street Waco collects, why we collect it, and the choices available to you.
Information you choose to provide
We collect information when you join The Downtown Weekly, answer a downtown question, submit an event, claim or update a business, report a correction, or contact us. Depending on the action, this may include your email address, name, organization, business relationship, response, event details, source links, and other information you submit.
Information collected automatically
Our hosting and security providers may process basic technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, requested pages, timestamps, and error or security logs. We use Vercel Web Analytics to measure aggregate page visits and actions such as newsletter signup success and questionnaire completion. This measurement does not use advertising cookies or create a Main Street Waco profile tied to an email address. The site also uses limited browser storage for features such as remembering that you closed the newsletter prompt or saved an event.
If you choose to use location-based map features, your browser will ask permission first. Location is used to provide the requested map experience and is not added to a Main Street Waco visitor profile.
How we use information
- Deliver and manage The Downtown Weekly.
- Understand what residents and visitors say would bring them downtown.
- Review event, correction, and business submissions.
- Operate, secure, debug, and improve the website.
- Measure whether the guide, map, calendar, and planning tools are useful.
- Comply with legal obligations and prevent abuse.
Public responses
Questionnaire answers are counted in aggregate. A written response is only considered for public display after review. We do not intentionally publish an email address, IP address, or private contact information. If you provide a name with a response, that name may appear with the response after editorial review.
Service providers
We use service providers to operate the platform, including Vercel for hosting, Supabase for database services, Mapbox for interactive maps, and an email-delivery provider for The Downtown Weekly. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments. We may replace or add providers as the service develops and will update this policy when that materially changes how personal information is handled.
Advertising and sale of data
Main Street Waco does not sell personal information. The site uses privacy-friendly aggregate web measurement, but does not run Google Analytics, Google Ads tags, or Meta advertising pixels. If nonessential analytics or advertising technology is introduced, we will update this notice and provide an appropriate privacy choice before activating it where required.
Retention and security
Newsletter records are retained while a subscription is active and as needed to honor unsubscribe requests. Public-input and submission records may be retained as part of the platform's editorial and accountability record unless removal is required or appropriate. Technical logs follow provider retention schedules. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and requests
You may unsubscribe from newsletter emails at any time. You may also ask to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information associated with you, or raise a privacy concern. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
Send a privacy requestChildren and changes
This service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We may update this policy as Main Street Waco develops. Material changes will be identified by a revised effective date and, when appropriate, an additional notice.
